Thanks to Sensei Webber

for sharing the following with us all.

I just wanted to share some photos from the Rothesay Netherwood after school program. Rothesay Netherwood is a private school in Rothesay that has grades 6-12.

The program has been running at the school for 3 months now, 4 days a week. The program might be continued after February depending on the other sports at the school.
It has been a lot of fun, and I hope they decide to continue with the program.

Best regards,

Jonathan Webber

August 2009

Thank You...from Sensei McInnes

On behalf of the New Brunswick Chito Ryu Association I would like to thank all who attended the Second Annual Atlantic Chito Ryu Summer Camp in Rothesay New Brunswick.

Your participation made this years camp a success and we appreciate your support. Chito Ryu Karate members came from NL, NS, PEI, ON, as well as NB to make this a fun filled event. The Summer Camp Sponsored by the NBCRA was hosted by the KV Karate Club.

I would like to thank Higashi Sensei who continues to inspire and lead like no other, we are eternally grateful, his guidance, patience and understanding showed all that we have much to learn from his teaching of Chito Ryu Karate as taught to him by O’Sensei Chitose.

This year for the first time a Kids camp was added the day before with 18 kids taking part under the guidance of Neil Pond and the instruction and leadership of Kate Campbell the 2009 Karate Canada Junior Kumite Champion. Kate, who is a member of the New Maryland Karate Club, is now heading to the Pan Am Karate Championships and will follow this by representing Canada at the Junior Worlds in Morocco along with her instructor and International Referee Shihan Don Mazerolle. Assisting Kate and Neil were Lori Donovan and Jeff Carr.

Stepping up to the plate when asked to by Higashi Sensei saw Renshi Romualdo Ferri review and interpret the fine points and bunkai of kata Seisan. Sensei Randy Rix showed his kumite experience and coaching skills can inspire and encourage anyone to be better in the skills of kumite competition, Shihan David Chong brought his experience of Tai Chi to add yet another dimension to our early morning exercise experience. I would like to thank Renshi Chris Golz for his experience and support throughout the weekend.

Finally many thanks go to the Organizing Committee headed by Neil Pond who co-coordinated the Summer Camp, his support staff included Phil Tanguay, Lori Donovan, Brent Donovan, Jeff Carr and Jonathan Webber. There were others who supported them and so to all a job well done.

We hope you enjoyed your Atlantic Summer camp experience and will make plans to attend next year, (tentative date Aug20-24, 2010) please share your memories with others and encourage them to come too.

Don’t forget to visit the NBCRA web site http://www.nbchitoryu.com  to view the photo album of the camp.

Summer Karate Camps - SUCCESS!

Summer Camp 09

These were incredibly fun and experience packed events for both children and adults alike.

The Kids Summer Camp that was directed by Sensei Neil Pond with special guests Sensei Kate Campbell and Sensei Glen Savoie was a huge hit with the kids. Activities included a basic introduction to karate and dojo etiquette as well as exercises and techniques, a demonstration by national womens champion (under 21 yrs) Kate Campbell and finally a classic movie presentation of The Karate Kid. Looks like many will be coming back for more karate. Kids Photos here. Adult Camp Photos

As for the adults and youths, it was an action-packed three days of kata, bunkai and detailed interpretations with special guests Sensei Higashi and others from Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and of course from all over New Brunswick. A surprise guest also included Mayor Bill Bishop of the town of Rothesay who welcomed our guests and even give out some Nidan belts. Saturday's BBQ went very well as the weather cooperated with a feast and fun.

Many thanks to the community sponsors, instructors, organizers and volunteers. The plan for next year is to make it an International Event, so be sure to make space on your calendar and bring along a friend.
