Fundy Karate Club

Fundy School of Karate was started by Sensei Carl Saulnier in September of 1986. Sensei Saulnier started his karate training under Senseis Wendel Black and Robert Garnett in the old CYO. After 10 years of training and successfully attaining his Black Belt, Sensei Saulnier decided to open his own dojo, located by the Saint John Airport at Loch Lomond School.

The club opened with a bang with 60 students showing up to train. The workouts were physically demanding, and Sensei always kept everyone on their toes with his keen eye and attention to detail.

One of his first students was a young teenager by the name of Glen Savoie. Glen trained diligently, and in 1994 received his Black Belt, the only student remaining from that original 1986 class. In September 1998, Sensei Savoie took over the club from Sensei Saulnier upon his retirement from karate. Since then, Sensei Savoie has endeavoured to maintain the level of excellence in the club that was began under Sensei Saulnier. In September 2016, Fundy School of Karate will celebrate 30 years of continuous training at Loch Lomond School.

Sensei Savoie is a 4-time member of the NB karate team. He has trained many students who have made the Provincial karate team, and who have medalled at Nationals. He is also an NCCP certified instructor.

Training days are Mondays and Fridays, 6:30pm-8:00pm (all students) and 8:00pm-9:30pm (advanced students only). Workouts are challenging and fun, and are open to children 8 years of age and up. Adults are welcome to train as well.
